Over the summer my friends and I were given the task to read a book called “Three Wishes: Palestinian and Israeli Children Speak” by Deborah Ellis. The book was about Palestinian and Isreali children, and there were little stories about children ranging from the ages of 8 to 18. They talked about school, social life and how life was like living in a war zone. After reading such a touching book and reading about the hardships of the Palestinians, there was no way that we could put the book down and not make a difference. That was where the second task came into action…making a difference!
In our little “group” there were four of us who had to make a difference. Sister Alina and I were both in Karachi at the time. Thus, we decided to make a difference together!! After four weeks of planning, we held a fundraiser and a program. We talked about Palestinian statistics, history and ways to make a difference. Roughly 60 people attended. After the program we had a fundraiser/ bake sale. We sold hand-made envelopes, dua CDS, and baked goods. We also received many donations. After the long day, we raised over 50,000 rupees. As much as we would have liked to send it to Palestine, we realized it would be very difficult and we would never know if it ever took into effect. Therefore, we donated it to a home for the disabled, and we bought them a washing machine and a refrigerator/freezer! Inshallah, one day all of us sisters will be able to reach out to all of the people in need.
